Boys & Girls Club Receives Staff Donation
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Pickens County's funding has very much been affected by the downturn in the economy. The blue jean Fridays continued from mid November through December. In addition, the staff voted to donate the funds they would normally spend on gift exchanges within the bank staff to the Clubs. Recycling. The Responsible Thing to Do! The Keep Pickens Beautiful organization has developed a recycling program for companies that makes it as convenient and easy as possible to recycle. Susan Wright from Community Bank of Pickens County has organized the program as a member of the Keep Pickens Beautiful Board of Directors. The plan focuses on three areas to begin with: plastic bottles, aluminum cans and mixed use paper and cardboard. Susan stated, "We have to start somewhere. These three items are fairly easy to recycle and can be maintained without too much effort. Once we all get good at recycling these items we will focus on recycling at a deeper level. If the businesses and residents in Pickens County would just recycle these three items it would make a huge impact on reducing the amount of landfill we use and go a long ways toward protecting our environment for the future." Community Bank of Pickens County started their recycling program about a year ago and each month they deposit between 6 &9 large bags of cans and bottles at the recycling center, in addition to full loads each week of cardboard and mixed paper.
Keep Pickens Beautiful is asking you to consider incorporating recycling into your business. If you start with just three items it will make a huge impact on the amount of products in landfills and will support the recycled materials manufacturing in Georgia .
If you are interested in starting a recycling program you can contact Susan Wright at susan.wright@cbopc.com, 706-253-9602 or contact Keep Pickens Beautiful at 706-253-3600.

Community Bank of Pickens County Supports Keep Pickens Beautiful
If you haven’t noticed the two new pergolas, brick walk through and refurbished Keep Pickens Beautiful building on Main St. in downtown Jasper you need to go by and bask in the glow. The Board of Directors of the Keep Pickens Beautiful organization decided the building their office resides in and the surrounding area needed some beautification. The project was organized by the Board of Directors with Mary Ann Manzel at the helm as President. The building received a new roof, repairs in siding and facia boards and a new paint job. A small porch was constructed at the entrance to guard from rain and a concrete pad was pored for a safer step up into the building. In the garden area next to the building some bushes were removed and two beautiful pergolas were constructed. A brick walk through from the sidewalk to the parking lot was constructed and the parking lot was resurfaced.
Community Bank of Pickens County donated $1200 to the project, being the premier sponsor. Lee Dunn, owner of the building, also contributed to the enhancements and the City of Jasper was very helpful with the parking lot, porch pad, and brick walk through. Volunteers from the Keep Pickens Beautiful organization provided the labor for painting and refurbishment of the building and transplanting plants. Mary Ann Manzel designed the pergolas and garden area. This project shows what a little community involvement and support can accomplish.
The Keep Pickens Beautiful organization focuses on recycling education and efforts, Adopt A Road program for trash removal, and beautification projects.
Construction Almost Complete
We are getting down to the final finish details on the new Cove Rd. location. Everything is progressing nicely and we are still on target to have final completion in March 2008.
The exterior is almost finished and they have completed sheetrock, trim and paint on the inside as of February 15. |

Community Bank of Pickens County Staff Donates to ACES The staff of Community Bank of Pickens County voted to forego their annual gift giving to each other and instead, donate what they would normally spend to Appalachian Children’s Emergency Shelter(ACES). Shown is Larry Butler, President of ACES receiving a check for $500 on behalf of the ACES organization. There has been a great need for a children’s shelter in Pickens County for many years. The donation will go towards finishing the construction of the building that will house the shelter.
Construction Update
Construction is progressing nicely on the new Cove Rd. location for Community Bank of Pickens County. Steel supports are in place, framing and dry in is complete, and all should be under roof by end of week of December 24. Rough-ins for plumbing and electrical are underway and should also be done by first of year. All is on schedule for a March completion date.
This location will be a full service location with all banking services available. Ryan Keeter is overseeing the new location and stated, “This location will offer a lot of folks on the East side a more convenient place to bank. The Cove Rd. location will just be an extension of our main location. We have outgrown our current location and truly need more room to accommodate our growth. We look forward to serving the needs of both existing and new customers from this location.”

Community Bank of Pickens County Partners with The Boys & Girls Clubs of Pickens County
Community Bank of Pickens County has partnered with the West End and Roper Park Boys & Girls Clubs in a reading program. Community Bank has provided books to be read every week by volunteer staff every Tuesday & Thursday at 4:30pm. Brian Craig of Community Bank of Pickens County wanted to start a reading program for the children of Pickens County and felt the Boys & Girls Clubs were a perfect outlet to share his love of reading. The children are very attentive and seem to really enjoy listening and quiet time that a quality reading program offers. Once the books are read to both clubs, one of the clubs is presented with the book to keep as part of their permanent library.
